Were you one of the thousands of people who worked at Crewe Works, or do you have memories of Crewe’s railway past? We’d love you to drop in and see us.

We are looking to find memories of the Works Hospital and the orphanage as well - if your parents/grandparents worked in or were treated at the hospital we'd love to hear from you. Same for the orphanage. Do you have any images?

On Thursday 24 September, 11am–3pm, the Family History Society of Cheshire is holding a special Railway Workers Day at our Crewe Research Centre in the Brierley Business Centre,

We’ll have images from early railway accident books on display, and we’re particularly hoping that former Works staff may be able to help us decipher some of the terminology, handwriting and descriptions. Your knowledge could help us understand these fascinating records more fully.

We’re also working in conjunction with Crewe Town Council Heritage to collect oral histories. If you worked at Crewe Works, come along and tell us about your job, the people you worked with and what everyday life in the Works was really like. Those memories are an important part of Crewe’s history and deserve to be preserved.

You’ll also be able to browse our collection of books about Crewe, the railway and its heritage, with many available to buy.

And, of course, there will be tea, coffee and homemade cakes throughout the day!
